Students and community members are continuing to receive and share social media posts that reference potential school violence. Law enforcement has determined these posts started in other parts of the country and do not involve Washington County Public Schools. They are not credible threats to school safety.
THERE ARE NO IMMINENT SAFETY AND SECURITY THREATS CURRENTLY AT ANY WCPS SCHOOL.
Unfortunately, these invalid messages are creating an unnecessary level of fear among members of our school communities. These issues are being heightened by those who are continuing to share these messages on social media.
WHEN YOU SEE POSTS THAT THREATEN OR IMPACT SECURITY IN OUR SCHOOLS.
“REPORT IT, DON’T REPOST IT”
TELL YOUR STUDENT TO DO THE SAME.
WCPS and local law enforcement take school safety and security very seriously and work together to determine the source of any threats and whether they are credible. Reposting threats, instead of reporting them, does not help.
Keeping our community’s schools safe is one of our most important responsibilities. You can help by immediately reporting anything you see or hear that indicates a potential problem at school or a school event to school staff and/or law enforcement.
