MEDIA RELEASE:
The Washington County Sheriff’s Office has arrested a man for the robbery of the Columbia Bank.
On October 13, 2017 at approximately 1:27 PM, Deputies responded to Columbia Bank, 17803 Virginia Avenue, Hagerstown for a robbery.
Witnesses at the bank stated a black male suspect wearing all black clothing had entered the bank, demanded money be placed into a black bag and then fled the area on foot.
A deputy in the area turned onto Virginia Avenue in his unmarked, covert vehicle and observed a male matching the description of the suspect walking on Linwood Road. The suspect waved the deputy down but when the suspect saw the deputy, who was wearing a raid vest with “sheriff” on it, the suspect fled. The deputy was able to apprehend the suspect in the 800 block of Linwood Road.
The suspect was identified as Tristan Paul Mitchell, 28, of Baltimore. Mitchell was in procession of a large amount of cash at the time of his arrest, which was later found to be the exact amount stolen from the bank during the robbery.
Mitchell is charged with Robbery and Theft.
Mitchell is currently being held at the Washington County Detention Center with no bond.
