Civilian Employment Openings
DAY REPORTING CENTER PROGRAM DIRECTOR
Salary: Grade 19 – Step 1 Salary $81,931
The employee is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of the Day Reporting Center under the supervision of the Sheriff and Warden.
The Program Director performs professional and administrative work directing the operations of assessment and treatment programming of the Day Reporting Center
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
This position is assigned to and supervised by the Washington County Sheriff’s Office.
1. Must possess a master’s degree in a related field, business, criminal justice, counseling, etc.
2. State of Maryland licensed professional for a minimum of five (5) years, i.e., Alcohol and Drug, Professional, Counselor, or a Social Worker.
3. This position requires the employee to be available 24/7 and an occasional email or telephone call from other members of the Sheriff’s Office or third-parties can be expected.
4. Must be flexible with work hours to accommodate the supervision of the DRC during hours of operation
5. Possession of working knowledge or ability to obtain a working knowledge of Microsoft Operating Systems.
6. Possession of working knowledge of maintaining statistics related to the Day Reporting Center and how to conduct statistical analysis of this data.
7. Must have a valid driver’s license.
8. Ability to pass a comprehensive background investigation
9. Ability to pass a random drug screening
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Preferred work experience in criminal justice, counseling, and/or treatment setting.
2. Four years of experience in the management and direction of a multi-person staff.
NECESSARY SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
1. Ability to supervise professional case managers, therapists, and support staff.
2. Possess knowledge of the operation of computers and programs such as Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel.
3. Ability to occasionally lift objects in excess of 15 lbs.
4. Ability to complete related tasks as assigned by higher authority.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Must have the sensory skills in order to effectively communicate and interact with other employees, members of the criminal justice system, employees of the partnering agencies, and the public through the use of telephone and personal contact as normally defined by the ability to see, read, talk, hear, handle or feel objects and controls. Physically capable of using and operating small office equipment such as computers, copiers, fax machine, etc. Physical requirements will also include occasional standing, walking, moving, climbing, bending, kneeling or reaching. The employee may also be required to carry, lift, or handle packages or equipment in excess of 15 lbs.

Patrol Division
Entry-level: $44,616
Lateral: $48,048
$5,000 sign-on bonus with a signed 3-year contract. Upon successful completion of the training academy, employees will receive a $2,500 bonus for the first year and the remaining $2,500 during their second year.
The Patrol Division is the law enforcement arm of the Sheriff’s Office. Patrol Deputies enforce all criminal and traffic laws in Washington County. They patrol an area of 458 square miles containing 875 miles of county roads and 774 miles of state roads.

Law Enforcement Cadet

Entry-level: $25,463
The Washington County Sheriff’s Office is not currently accepting applications for the Law Enforcement Cadet position. This position is trainee level law enforcement work for individuals between the ages of 18 and 20. The starting salary is $25,463 with a competitive benefits package

PRE-EMPLOYMENT PACKET FOR CADET
The Law Enforcement Cadet position is trainee level law enforcement work for individuals between the ages of 18 and 21. The Cadet will experience various duties and responsibilities performed by sworn personnel in preparation for and anticipation of the Cadet’s acceptance and entry into a Maryland accredited Law Enforcement Academy. A cadet who has reached the age of 21 is only eligible to serve in such a position until acceptance and entry into the next available law enforcement academy class. Employment will be terminated if the cadet cannot successfully enter and complete the academy.
Minimum Qualifications
- High School Graduate or G.E.D.
- Minimum of 18 years of age and no older than 20 years of age.
- To achieve necessary scores in competitive testing, (written, psychological, and oral interview testing).
- Successful completion of agency background investigation, (to include polygraph/CVSA testing, physical fitness testing), with no disqualifying factors. Falsification of any portion of the application would be a disqualifying factor. Applicants must be of good moral character.
- Complete post job offers physical and psychological examination by a licensed physician and psychologist with no disqualifying factors. Must be in good physical condition with weight commensurate too height and body build.
- Applicants must be a citizen of the United States at the time of appointment.
- Applicants must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license to operate any class of vehicle necessary to perform the duties of the position.

Judicial Division

The Judicial Division’s primary responsibilities are to provide security for the Circuit Court Judges, trials and Circuit Court grounds, serve all legal papers issued by the District and Circuit Courts and prisoner transports.
Judicial Deputies are Maryland certified police officers and perform law enforcement duties as may be necessary.

The Detention Division’s primary responsibility is the care and confinement of persons committed to the Washington County Detention Center.
Detention Deputies have no police authority and are responsible for managing the inmate population in all facets of daily activities including, controlling inmate movement, monitoring recreation, visiting privileges, performing searches and assisting inmates in solving problems.

Employment Benefits
Patrol and Detention Deputies are paid an extra day’s pay for each County Holiday (currently twelve per year), and are eligible for shift differential (depending upon when the shift begins).
Patrol and Detention Deputies work varying shifts and are assigned varying days off. The Patrol and Detention Divisions operate on a 24 hour a day, 365 days a year basis.
Patrol and Judicial Deputies are eligible for contractual overtime assignments, as available.
The Sheriff’s Office also employs several civilian (non-law enforcement) personnel. These positions provide administrative, technical and specialized support. Examples of civilian positions are program coordinators, specialized technicians, records clerks, secretaries,
Detention Center cooks, classification counselors, vehicle mechanic, and facilities maintenance personnel. The rate of pay depends on the position for which you are applying.
Some non-sworn positions operate on a 24 hour a day, 365 days a year basis.

The retirement benefits include retirement at age 50 or with 25 years of service for sworn employees and retirement at age 60 or with 30 years of service for non-sworn employees.
