MEDIA RELEASE:
The Washington County Sheriff’s Office has arrested a Williamsport High School student for making threats of mass violence against the school.
On October 18, 2017 at approximately 3:35 PM the School Resource Officer was contacted by school administrators in reference to a threat made against the school. A parent had called into the school and stated their child had overheard two students talking about a third student who had made a threat to “shoot up the school”.
The School Resource Officer contacted both of the students who were overheard by the reporting student and was able to obtain the identity of the student who made the threat against the school.
Deputies made contact with the suspect student at their residence prior to the start of the school day on October 19, 2017.
The suspect, who is a juvenile, was placed under arrest and transported to the Washington County Sheriff’s Office for processing.
At the order of the Department of Juvenile Services the suspect was released to the custody of their parent.
The safety of our children is a top priority for the Washington County Sheriff’s Office; threats of violence against our schools are taken seriously and investigated to the full extent.
