MEDIA RELEASE:
On Tuesday, March 28, 2023, at approximately 5:40 PM, Washington County Sheriff’s Office Deputies responded to the 18200 block of Roycroft Drive, Hagerstown, MD, for reports of a shooting.
Upon arrival, an adult male victim was located and transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries to his leg.
The incident resulted from a domestic argument between the suspect and another individual, in which the victim later became involved. The suspect fired multiple rounds outside of the residence at the victim. At the time of the incident, other persons were outside. The suspect fled the area before the arrival of law enforcement.
The suspect, identified as James Michael Barnes Sr, 28, of Hagerstown, was located in the Williamsport area and placed under arrest.
Barnes has been charged with Attempted 2nd Degree Murder, 1st Degree Assault, 2nd Degree Assault, Reckless Endangerment, and Firearm Use Felony Crime of Violence.
Barnes is currently being held without bond at the Washington County Detention Center.
