MEDIA RELEASE: UPDATED INFORMATION:
The driver of the stolen vehicle has been identified as Devonte Robert Warfield, 18, of Hagerstown.
On April 28, 2017 at approximately 5:15 PM, members of the Washington County Sheriff’s Office, Hagerstown Police Department and the Maryland State Police Apprehension Team located Warfield in the West end of Hagerstown. A traffic stop was conducted on the vehicle Warfield was traveling in. Warfield was found to be in possession of a handgun at the time of his arrest.
It was determined that after the vehicle pursuit on April 18, Warfield fled the scene and was not taken into custody. The three other individuals in the vehicle during the incident were detained and later released. They have been identified as juveniles and currently do not face charges.
Warfield has been charged with 5 counts of Assault 1st Degree, 5 counts of Assault 2nd Degree, 5 counts of Reckless Endangerment, 1 count of Theft $10,000- $100,000, 1 count of Negligent Driving, 1 count of Reckless Driving, 1 count of Failure to drive right of center, 2 counts of Failure to obey a traffic control device, 1 count of Driving without a license, 4 counts of Failure to stop after an accident and 1 count of Attempt to elude uniformed police by failing to stop vehicle.
In addition to the above listed charges, Warfield has also been charged with 1 count of Dangerous Weapon- Conceal, 1 count of Handgun in Vehicle, 1 count of Handgun on Person, 1 count of regulated firearm: Illegal Possession and 1 count of possession of Firearm/minor, as a result of the handgun he was in possession of during the time of his arrest.
Warfield is currently being held at the Washington County Detention Center with no bond.
