Hagerstown Man Charged in Connection to April 11 Homicide.
MEDIA RELEASE: UPDATED INFORMATION
Darrin Anthony White, 25, of Hagerstown, has been charged in connection to the April 11, 2023 homicide in Funkstown, MD.
The victim has been identified as Erwin Bernard Redding, 39, of Hagerstown.
White turned himself in to the Washington County Sheriff’s Office without incident
White has been charged with 1st Degree Murder, 2md Degree Murder, 1st Degree Assault, 2nd Degree Assault, Possession of a Handgun, Carrying/Concealed Handgun, Possession of a Handgun in Vehicle, Carrying/Concealed Handgun in Vehicle, Firearm use/Felony/Violent Crime, and Reckless Endangerment.
White is currently being held without bond at the Washington County Detention Center.

On April 11, 2023, at approximately 12:40 AM, Deputies responded to Joker’s Bar and Grill, 2 West Baltimore Street, Funkstown, MD, for reports of a shooting.
Upon arrival, Deputies located an adult male, outside of the bar, with gunshot wounds. The male was transported to Meritus Medical Center, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
This is an active investigation, no further information is available for release. Anyone with information in reference to this incident is asked to contact the Sheriff’s Office at 240-313-2170.
Sheriff’s Office Investigates Incident on School Bus

The Washington County Sheriff’s Office is investigating an incident on a school bus.
On April 5, 2023, during the afternoon bus route, an elementary school student was found to be in possession of an unloaded handgun. The incident was reported to the bus driver by other students on the school bus. The bus driver secured the student’s belongings with the weapon and returned to the school. The weapon is in the possession of the Sheriff’s Office.
The Washington County Sheriff’s Office takes the safety of students and school staff as a top priority. The Sheriff’s Office, in cooperation with Washington County Public Schools, is in the process of conducting a thorough investigation into the incident.
We want to remind our community to store firearms and other weapons safely and in accordance with Maryland law.
The Sheriff’s Office will release more information when it becomes available.

One-Day Entry-Level Patrol Deputy Hiring Event

The Sheriff’s Office will be conducting a One-Day Entry Level Patrol Deputy Sheriff Hiring Event on Thursday, May 18, 2023, at 5:00 P.M. Applicants are to arrive at 4:30 P.M. for pre-registration. Physical Fitness/Handgun Familiarization Testing will begin promptly at 5:00 P.M. No late entries will be permitted.

All testing and interviews will be conducted at the Washington County Sheriff’s Office Patrol Division, 500 Western Maryland Parkway Hagerstown, MD. 21740.
Applicants who pass the PFT will continue with the Written Test. Applicants who pass the PFT, and Written Test will continue to the Oral Board Interview beginning directly afterward.
The Release of Liability and Physician’s Certification MUST be completed and submitted on the testing date, May 18, 2023. The Physician’s Certification must be completed within 30 days of the Physical Fitness Test date to be considered valid. A valid government-issued photo identification is required at the time of testing.
