I am having a problem with people that live down the street. How do I get a Restraining Order against them?
Restraining Orders in Maryland are called Peace Orders or Protective Orders. These orders are issued by the District Court at 34 W Antietam St. You must go to the court to apply for the orders, and a Judge or District Court Commissioner will decide whether to grant the order or deny it.
What is the difference between a Peace Order and a Protective Order?
A Protective Order is designed for protection from abuse in a domestic situation between two intimate people such as husband/wife or boyfriend/girlfriend. Peace Orders are orders of protection between all others, such as friends, neighbors, in-laws, brother/sister, etc. Peace Orders carry a processing fee and a service fee. Both are issued by a Judge (or Commissioner after hours).
