MEDIA RELEASE:

Robert William Becker, 76, of Hagerstown, has been charged with child abuse in connection to incidents that occurred during 1976/1977.

The victim reported the incidents to the Washington County Sheriff’s Office on August 12, 2020. The victim stated that while she was a student at Heritage Academy, Becker touched her underneath her clothing in the area of her genitals, on two different occasions. Becker was a History and Physical Education teacher at the school during the time of the incidents.

After a thorough investigation, the case against Becker was presented to a Grand Jury. Becker has been charged with Child Abuse: Custodian and 3rd-degree Sex Offense: Under Age Victim.

Becker was taken into custody on September 17, 2021, without incident.  Becker is currently being held at the Washington County Detention Center awaiting a court appearance.
