Media Release:

The Washington County Sheriff’s Office is currently investigating a fatal collision involving a pedestrian.

On January 12, 2023 at approximately 6:52 AM, the Sheriff’s Office responded to the 14300 block of McAfee Hill Road, Cascade, MD, in reference to a vehicle collision involving a pedestrian. Upon Deputies arrival, a deceased adult male pedestrian was located.

The initial investigation revealed that the male, identified as Johann Messersmith, 58, of Cascade, walked in front of a 2015 Ford F250 and was struck. The truck was traveling towards Pennsylvania on McAfee Hill Road.

The driver of the truck remained on scene and was not injured.

The Washington County Sheriff’s Office Crash Reconstruction Team is continuing to investigate the incident.
