The Washington County Sheriff’s Office has charged a registered sex offender for being on school property when prohibited.
On October 18, 2016 at approximately 2:30 PM, the School Resource Officer (SRO) responsible for Hancock Elementary School was contacted by school officials in reference to a registered sex offender who was on school property. The SRO was able to confirm that a male, identified as James Alan Bishop, had been riding in the passenger seat of a vehicle that was picking up a student on school property. Bishop is a Tier III registrant through the State of Maryland and is not permitted to knowingly enter onto real property that is used for the public or nonpublic elementary or secondary education.
The driver of the vehicle has custody of the student who was picked up.
Bishop has been charged with Registrant- Enter Restricted Real Property.
