Traffic Advisory- JFK Ultramarathon , Saturday November 17, 2018 5:00 AM – 5:00PM
The Washington County Sheriff’s Office is assisting with traffic control at intersections in support of the JFK Ultramarathon participants.
Motorists are requested to use caution in the early morning hours in Boonsboro, Md. at the starting point of the event.
Runners use Old National Pike from Boonsboro to the top of South Mountain, and then use the Appalachian Trail, crossing several county roads until reaching Weaverton. The runners cross Keep Tryst Rd. then enter the C&O Canal towpath.
Support vehicles for the runners and spectators are warned Back Road near the Dargan Boat Ramp is only accessible from the Harpers Ferry Road. Sections of Back Road have been washed out due to flooding in May and are closed.
The public viewing area on Taylors Landing Road may be limited due to wet weather conditions. Motorists are asked to make sure adequate room is given on the roadway for emergency vehicles to pass. Taylors Landing Road is used as an evacuation point to transport injured runners for medical treatment.
Runners leave the C&O canal towpath at Dam #4 Road. Motorists are asked to be on the lookout for runners and share the roadway.
Speilman Road between Downsville and Lappans Road will be partially closed to traffic between noon and 7pm. One lane will be open to local residents who live in area of the.road. All other traffic will be asked to detour.
Lappans Rd between Governor Lane Blvd and South Conocoheague Street at I-81 bridges is a construction zone. Motorists are asked to use caution due to reduced visibility, construction barriers and narrowed traffic lanes caused by the construction.
Artizan St at Sunset Ave in Williamsport. Sunset Ave will be closed (except to local traffic) at 1030.
Clifton Dr. at the Williamsport School Complex. Only Race officials, race support and volunteer vehicles are allowed to pass at the bridge between Williamsport High and Springfield Middle School. A permit provided by the race organizers must be displayed to cross at this point.
Parking for the finish line is at Williamsport High School and Williamsport Elementary. Spectators will need to walk or use the shuttle service provided by the JFK to reach the finish line. Spectators need to use the Potomac Street entrance to Clifton Drive to access the school complex.
