MEDIA RELEASE:
On October 10, 2017 at 8:23 AM, the Washington County Sheriff’s Office responded to Clear Spring Elementary School, 12627 Broadfording Road, for a report of the driver of a black passenger car waiving a firearm out the window while driving by the elementary school.
A vehicle matching the description of the suspect vehicle was located parked in the parking lot of Clear Spring High School. On the rear, passenger floor board of the vehicle was what appeared to be a black handgun in plain view. The driver of the vehicle, a juvenile, was located in the High School. The black handgun was removed from the vehicle and determined to be an unloaded Airsoft pellet gun.
It was determined that the driver of the black passenger car was engaged in “horse play” with the vehicle traveling in front of it. A passenger in the front vehicle was leaning out the window pointing their fingers like guns at the black passenger car. The driver of the black passenger car held the Airsoft pellet gun out of the driver’s side window and mimicked shooting back. The driver and occupants of the other involved vehicle stated that the Airsoft pellet gun was never pointed towards Clear Spring Elementary School students.
After reviewing surveillance footage of the incident and speaking with witnesses, Deputies could find no credible information to support that the Airsoft pellet gun had been pointed at the students on the playground of Clear Spring Elementary School.
The case was presented to the Washington County States Attorney’s Office, who advised that no criminal charges will be filed.
