Washington County Sheriff’s Office investigates threat report.
On April 22, 2024, at approximately 11:40 AM, the Washington County Sheriff’s Office responded to Cedar Ridge Children’s Home for a reported active shooter within the school on campus.
Our deputies promptly cleared the campus and conducted a thorough investigation, which revealed no active threat on the property. It was determined that a student had sent a text message to another student, which was misinterpreted and reported to a staff member who contacted 9-1-1.
There is no active threat to the community related to this incident.
The Sheriff’s Office takes threats of mass violence against our community seriously; we encourage our community to report such threats immediately.

The deceased has been identified as Devin Anthony Meniefield, 23, of Hagerstown.
Kamari Kenyon Meniefiled, 16, has been charged as an adult in the death of Devin Meniefield.
Kamari Meniefield has been charged with 1st Degree Murder, 2nd Degree Murder, 1st Degree Assault, 2nd Degree Assault, 3 counts of Reckless Endangerment, and weapons-related charges.
Kamari Meniefeild is being held at the Washington County Detention Center without bond.

On March 18, 2024, at approximately 1:25 PM, the Washington County Sheriff’s Office responded to the 17400 block of Maple Leaf Court, Hagerstown, MD, for a shooting.
Upon arrival, an adult male, who appeared to be suffering from gunshot wounds, was located in a residence. The victim succumbed to his injuries.
Law Enforcement searched the surrounding areas, and the suspect was located approximately 30 minutes after the incident in the 1000 block of Noland Drive, Hagerstown.
The suspect was taken into custody without incident.
